General Assembly committees offer an engaging experience that closely emulates the structure of the United Nations, providing delegates with a platform to immerse themselves in international diplomacy. These committees are designed with a strong focus on sparking debates, making them especially inviting for novice delegates. The subject of discussion is chosen from among topics in the background guides by setting the order of agenda. Rather than acting through crisis notes, delegates actively participate in substantive discussions in order to find a comprehensive solution to a topic. Whether you’re a newcomer or a seasoned delegate, GAs present an exciting opportunity to strengthen your debate, negotiation, and collaboration skills.

United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC): 2008 FINANCIAL Crisis

The wake of the Global Financial Crisis of 2008 saw the collapse of several financial institutions and saw many others in turmoil in the aftermath. Due to the liquidity and credit crises that eventually lead to the failure of so many banks, many financial institutions started accepting money from very disruputed sources. Rumors suggest banks are accepting money from drug cartels. organized crime, smuggling rings, and even possibly terrorist groups. This relationship between global financial entities and organized crime has led to an increase in transnational crime drastically in the wake of the financial crisis. It is up to the delegates in a special meeting of the United Nations Economic and Social Council to try and come up with an apt solution to this complex problem on an international scale.

international crime police organization (interpol)

The multi-billion-dollar transnational organized crime industry operates through criminal networks whose illicit activities destabilize countries. The International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) was established to combat these crimes through global police and crime expert coordination. As senior law enforcement officials of different member countries, you must address this pressing issue, which includes tackling drug cartels and strengthening law enforcement in underdeveloped countries. Will you succeed in restoring the millions of livelihoods and opportunities stolen by these dirty hands, or will billions more continue to bleed into the pockets of organized crime syndicates?

Greater london council (GLc)

From 1965 to 1986, the Greater London Council (GLC) ran the show across Greater London, taking over from the smaller London County Council. Led by the bold and often controversial Ken Livingstone, the GLC became known for going head-to-head with Margaret Thatcher, aiming to challenge everything she stood for. The council oversees fire services, emergency planning, waste disposal, and flood control, while sharing responsibilities with boroughs on the working of roads, housing, and city planning. In 1986, it was abolished by Thatcher’s government, with powers devolved to local authorities. A new body, the Greater London Authority (GLA), emerged in 2000 to take its place.

Hybrids offer delegates an experience somewhere between the fast-paced crisis environment and the more debate-focused scene of a General Assembly. Delegates will act as characters or countries in a committee responsible for addressing general issues and resolving urgent events. The committee will start by setting the order of agenda, then delegates will need to address the topic at hand by writing directives or contributions to a resolution. Delegates will not have portfolio powers, but they will be able to send crisis notes to the back room. Based on their actions in committee and the notes they send, crisis events will periodically add an additional layer to the flow of the committee.

MLB Collective bargaining agreement 2026

On December 1st, 2026, the future of America’s favorite pastime shall be decided. The Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) is set to expire, and talks are already underway on what will be included in the next Agreement. Will the Owners finally negotiate the salary cap (and potential floor) that the MLBPA has been fervently against? Or will there be no agreement, leading to a World Series cancellation and forcing Congress to intervene? This agreement has the potential to completely revamp the entire game of baseball as we know it. Hang onto your baseball caps and be prepared to negotiate for (or against) your favorite players!

the meji restoration 1868

Emperor Meiji has been granted dominion over Japan after the resignation of Shogun Tokugawa Yoshinobu. The former leader, however, seems to have grievances against some of the politics in the new Emperor's court. Yoshinobu has decided to send these grievances in the form of a 15,000 strong force towards the capital city of Kyoto. It's your role as the imperial court to the new Meiji Emperor to ensure that the reign of the new Emperor is secured and that the conflict does not escalate into conflicts throughout Japan. Its also your role as the Imperial court to tie in and ease tensions between different factions and classes across Japanese society to ensure that the might of Japan flourishes under the reign of Emperor Meiji.

no mo money: venezuelan hyperinflation 2016

Would you pay $2.22 USD for 2.4kg of chicken? What about 14.6 million bolívares? This was the reality for Venezuelans in 2018, as inflation rates skyrocketed to 2,000,000%. This economic collapse induced a severe humanitarian crisis, forcing over 7 million Venezuelans to flee the country in search of better living conditions. But what if more decisive action had been taken early on? The year is 2016, and Venezuela has just entered hyperinflation. As key stakeholders of Venezuela's economy and government, the fate of the nation rests in your hands. Can you avert the country from financial ruin? Can you regain public trust and manage the subsequent social fallout? And yes - can you lower the price of chicken?

Crisis committees are the most unconventional element of Model UN, drawing off of a fast-paced structure with consecutive crises centered around a generalized conflict. Rather than representing a country, delegates typically assume the role of an individual. Their job in the front room is to assess various crisis events as they arise and collaborate with others to take collective committee action in the form of passing directives. In the backroom, delegates have the opportunity to create their own crisis arc by using crisis notes to secretly exert their will on the committee. Periodically, crisis staffers will enter the room to present updates based on the actions of delegates in the front and back rooms.

hawai unification

The year is the late 18th century. The Hawaiian Islands are fractured, each ruled by rival chiefs and royal lineages, all vying for more power, legacy, and ensuring survival. The death of King Kalaniʻōpuʻu has thrown the Big Island into turmoil, igniting a fierce power struggle between his son Kīwalaʻō and the ambitious war leader Kamehameha I. With the backing of foreign weapons and advisors, Kamehameha I began a bold campaign to unite the islands under one rule. Delegates, you are key players in determining the fate of the islands. whether alliances are made or battles break out, it is in your hands to decide how Hawaii hangs in the balance.

the united arab republic 1958

The entire world can feel the tension between Russia and the United States, but domestic pressure has begun to shake the United Arab Republic. The UAR formed under the unification of Egypt and Syria in 1958 and then promptly fell six years later. How will the UAR hold up under vast political and economic tensions domestically whilst staying neutral in the global order? Pan-Arab culture will be at the forefront of creating a national identity crucial to strengthening this budding republic.

No Sleep till Salem: Power Struggles in 1692

The year is 1692, and something sinister stirs beneath the surface of a seemingly quiet New England village. Words of witchcraft have spread like wildfire, leading to pervasive fear among the villagers. Under the tension of Puritan rule, where trust is fragile, one accusation can be lethal. Parishioners seek order, outcasts seek justice, and outsiders stir unrest, all while the line between hysteria and truth thins. Especially when the words that three witches are hiding among villagers, disturbing the lives of good Puritans, you, delegates are fighting for control over the town’s destiny, and the threat of unknown motives. Will you feed into the flame of panic? Or will you rise above the chaos to uncover the truth?

gupta empire

The Golden Age is upon us, under the rule of his highness Chandragupta II, the Gupta Empire has expanded its reach from the Bay of Bengal to the Arabian Sea. These territorial advances can only be rivalled by the coffers of the King's treasury. In the royal court of Chandragupta II, it is up to the court to decide on how the resources of the King and the treasury be spent on during this time and who will gain favor with the King himself. Will the Chandragupta’s favorite Navaratnas(Nine Gems) continue to gain favor and power? Will there be widespread economic relief for the common people? Will the army build defense systems to possibly guage the threats of a Huna invasion?

United nations security council (unsc): the secession of katanga

The secession of Katanga has thrown the newly independent Republic of the Congo into chaos, and the world watches closely as the struggle intensifies. With a fragile peacekeeping mission led by the United Nations and both superpowers looking to gain influence in Africa, the situation is anything but stable. Can the UN maintain order, or will foreign intervention and internal political divisions tear the country apart? As Katanga battles for independence, how will you navigate delicate diplomacy, military clashes, and the shifting balance of power in a fragile world?

algerian revolution

Algeria is at a tipping point. After 130 years of French colonial rule, resistance has erupted into full-blown revolution. It is 1954, and the National Liberation Front (FLN) is rising — employing guerrilla tactics, political organizing, and international diplomacy to challenge the colonial order. As key leaders within the FLN, you will confront the realities of revolution: building support, securing foreign aid, and coordinating armed resistance while navigating internal divisions and external pressure. Will you steer Algeria to independence, or falter under the weight of war? The future of a nation is yours to shape.

the second united front, china 1936-1945

For the past decade, the Kuomintang (KMT) and Chinese Communist Party (CCP) have been engaged in a fierce civil war for control of Chin– wait, why are the Chinese forces fighting the Japanese troops outside Beijing? Pressured by escalating tensions with Imperial Japan over this incident, the KMT and CCP made an unlikely decision in 1937 to set aside their differences and form the Second United Front. But can bitter enemies truly unite? As Japanese forces begin to push deeper into the country, you must do all that you can to protect China.

death of stalin

Stalin is dead! For some, this is a dark day for our country, but for others, this is the opportunity of a lifetime. Stalin left no successor, and the powers of the general secretary are appealing to many. Whoever can gather enough support among the Central Committee, Red Army, public, or other more nefarious sources can shape the future of the government. Vying for power is a matter of life or death in this committee, as you can never know the true motivations of the delegate sitting next to you.

the gods of egypt

It is time to take the reins of society once again! You will face war, famine, your interpersonal issues, and a severe lack of pyramids. As gods of the pantheon, you must utilize your divine might to solve the plights of humankind and bring prosperity back to the world. Make Ancient Egypt proud!

These committees are intended for creative, seasoned, and engaged delegates who wish to challenge themselves beyond the realm of a typical committee.

APPLICATION:
The link to the Ad Hoc and Thematic application will be provided in February!

thematic committee

The Thematic committee is a unique, specialized committee that integrates the traditional Model UN experience with innovative, hands-on debate and problem solving. Inspired by the conference theme, this committee challenges delegates to work quickly and diligently to create intuitive and comprehensive solutions based on other outcomes and crises debated in other EagleMUNC committees. The Thematic committee encourages delegates to observe patterns, utilize attention to detail, and solve issues globally and holistically. Delegates will be forced to think critically, connect the past to the present, and think beyond current truths. EagleMUNC is very enthusiastic to explore this year’s iteration of the Thematic committee: INVESTIGATIVE MYSTERY!

Assuming the roles of some of the most influential minds from all of history, you will be tasked with solving a murder mystery that spans across time and space. Many of the clues for the culprit will be located outside the committee room, and it will be your job to work as a collective to piece together everything you observe. Rules will be broken as this isn't your typical committee. Remember to stay vigilant and trust no one. Tick tock delegates, time is running out.

Ad-hoc

TOPIC WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT THE CONFERENCE!
The Ad-Hoc committee offers a fast-paced and exciting environment for more experienced students. Delegates will have their critical thinking skills tested as they are tasked with coming up with creative solutions to unique problems that fall outside the scope of a traditional Model UN committee. The topic of the Ad-Hoc will not be revealed until the start of the conference. Before the first committee session, students will receive a packet that briefs them on the situation and describes their role. Throughout the year, we will release teasers that may help you reveal some of the secrets of the Ad-Hoc. An unforgettable journey awaits for those who choose to apply!

Previous Ad-Hoc committees include:
The Lost City of Atlantis (EagleMUNC VI)
Deserted Island (EagleMUNC XI)
1800s Privateers (EagleMUNC XII)
