Dear advisors, delegates and friends of EagleMUNC,
Welcome to EagleMUNC X! We are so grateful that you are considering our conference for yourself and your delegation. This year, our staff is working to create an EagleMUNC experience which is innovative, exciting and immersive, and which creates the most realistic simulation of world politics possible. Delegates at EagleMUNC will be challenged to learn and adapt within their committees, all within our 40-Hour simulation. Within the simulation, delegates will be engaged with their committee from opening ceremonies to the closing gavel. Each delegate will be challenged to stay in character to represent the best interests of their role within the global community, and engage in diplomacy and cooperation with others throughout the entirety of the weekend in order to more closely emulate the way politics and decision making takes place in the real world. Our hope is that each delegate takes away not only new skills, knowledge and diplomatic experience, but also new relationships, connections and a memorable experience. Last year’s virtual conference pushed us to innovate and adapt to changing circumstances, and on the online platform we were able to provide an engaging and challenging experience for delegates. Even so, we are excited to announce that we plan to return to an in person conference for EagleMUNC X, as long as circumstances allow. Our goal for EX is to learn from our virtual conference, and implement the technology and new ways of engaging with media which were so effective last year. While we hope that delegates innovate and adapt at our conference, we also strive for innovation within our organization and see this year as an opportunity to embrace that goal. This year at EagleMUNC, we will offer 18 committees which span from 2686 BC to the future and occur all throughout the world. From more classic General Assemblies to our thematic committees, we strive to build upon EagleMUNCs 40-hours model and challenge delegates to cooperate, pursue diplomacy and create solutions to the world’s most challenging problems. Each committee will be bound by our theme, “Overcoming Adversity Through Innovation.” In the past year, we have all been challenged to adapt and overcome, both within our own countries and as a global society. One of the ways in which we, as a society, have been able to overcome these challenges has been through innovation. At EagleMUNC, we understand innovation as finding new ways of thinking and implementing creative solutions to handle problems. We hope that delegates will grow in their ability to create and apply innovative solutions within their committees, and continue to apply those skills outside of EagleMUNC. Our General Assemblies will provide delegates with the opportunity to serve as UN delegates and to cooperate with other countries in order to solve some of the most pressing issues of today. We hope that delegates will take the opportunity to create innovative solutions to the topics in these committees. Our committees not only allow delegates to work on issues from around the world and across time, but also to take on roles outside of the traditional scope of the United Nations. In the “2010 Afghanistan Parliamentary Elections” committee, delegates will serve as members of the Afghan Parliament and are tasked with ensuring their own re-election in tumultuous times. In the “Arctic Council” committee, some delegates will serve as traditional country representatives, but many more will be representatives from indigenous groups and populations. With our committees, we have also aimed to provide a new perspective on topics and issues that delegates may be more familiar with. Delegates in the “Spanish Civil War: The Nationalist Factions” will have a unique perspective on the war, serving as the rebel faction and working to form a counter government in Spain. The “Würzburg Witch Trials” explore trials in the Holy Roman Empire, rather than in Salem, MA, and will focus more exclusively on the aftermath of the trials, allowing delegates to understand the implications of the event. Lastly, in the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, delegates will address the rapid environmental changes in our world and focus on the protection of climate refugees. In each of our committees, we hope that delegates step outside of their comfort zone, embrace their roles and explore new perspectives on issues and topics. Each year at EagleMUNC, we aim to create a committee which draws upon our location in Boston and provides delegates with the opportunity to engage with our city and community. This year, we are excited to include the “Boston School Committee”. Not only will it allow delegates to learn more about Boston in particular, but it will allow them to engage in conversations about their own education which are occurring around the country. We also hope to hold our Thursday@Boston program where we invite delegates and schools to join us to explore our historic city and all it has to offer. We hope you enjoy the city and its experiences as much as we do! EagleMUNC would not be possible without the schools and delegations who attend each year. We take feedback seriously and as an opportunity to improve, and hope to provide the highest level of customer service to ensure that all delegates and advisors have the best experience possible. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns at any point before EagleMUNC, during the conference, or after, please reach out to us at sg@eaglemunc.org. We look forward to hearing from you! We would like to thank you again for considering our conference. Each of our 100+ staffers has been working tirelessly to ensure that each delegate and advisor has an unforgettable experience. Our EagleMUNC family is so excited for what this year will bring, and cannot wait to provide the best conference yet! Welcome to EagleMUNC X! Best, Pearson Love and Grace O’Hare |
