EagleMUNC stands in solidarity with the Black community and the Black Lives Matter movement during these troubling times following senseless acts of racism which have resulted in the deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and too many others. The systematic racism that exists in the United States has been occurring since before our nation’s founding. While this is far overdue, it is time for all of us to come together to recognize the responsibility we have to fight against oppression and suppression. We encourage our staff and EagleMUNC guests to recognize the power of their vote in reaching our ideals. As an organization that works to find solutions to our world's most pressing problems, we believe this circumstance too has solutions but requires doers and action. Silence and neutrality is choosing the side of the oppressor which is unacceptable.
Racism does not have a place in the EagleMUNC community. We commit to using our platform to support movements like Black Lives Matter and work towards creating a just society. Our organization vows to continue to create an opportunity for students to learn and discuss issues of diversity so that the oppressed voices are heard and understood. The skills and knowledge students from all over the world gain through Model United Nations can, and should, be used to make the world a brighter and safer place for everyone, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or culture. EagleMUNC is committed to the advancement of a globally-conscious society. We believe that through a collaborative community and forward thought, everyone can be educated on the struggles people, especially those of color, face and begin to conceive of solutions to racism, bigotry, xenophobia, sexism, and other forms of discrimination. |
